Week One - Introduction to Novel Structure

 - **Topics:**

- Idea Vs. Story

- The components of a novel: plot, character, theme, setting, and voice.

- Overview of common story structures (Three Act Structure, Hero’s Journey, etc.).

HOMEWORK:

  1. Write a concise log-line for your story using the character, conflict, change and stakes.

For example, the idea "a world where memories can be bought and sold" becomes a story when you add: "A memory dealer discovers his own most precious memory is missing, and must track down the thief before he loses his identity completely—but each memory he recovers reveals a past he's tried to forget."

  2. Think about the structure for the manuscript that you’re planning to outline during this course.
